The wondrous village of Robin Hoods Bay with its steep decline to its narrow unspoilt cobbled streets on the east coast of England is a delight to wonder through at any time of the year. It is however in the summer that Robin Hoods Bay comes to life when it becomes a haven for visitor and tourist. Although dwarfed in size to Whitby, its nearest seaside town which isolated five miles to the north, Robin Hoods Bay has plenty of attractions to offer and a certain atmosphere that keeps its visitors coming back for more. The heavy storms have taken its toll over the year however when over twenty cottages fell into the sea.

The Bay has been known as a fishing village since 1538 although it is believed to have been used in Roman times with nearby Ravenscar was used as a signal station. It was in the early nineteenth century that the village was at its most prosperous with well over a hundred fishermen fishing from the nearby coastal waters and even outshone Whitby at the scale of fishing that took place here. The village at the time was a haven for smugglers, with the remoteness of the village came safety from the authorities who job it was to catch smugglers and bring them to justice, which was normally a noose around their neck.

There are also rumours that the village has many secret passage linking many of the houses together, but don't bother to ask any of the locals because they aren't going to reveal any of the secrets. The many attractions of Robin Hoods Bay include a traditional hall of mirrors and the Old Coastguard Station which is ran by the National Trust. The Robin Hood's Bay Museum charts the local maritime history as well as information of the farming that took place around the bay.
